Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy pertains to the use of aromatic herbs and oils derived from them for psychological and physical well-being. Aromatherapy has been used for embalming, as well as for medicinal, spiritual, and also for fragrance and cosmetic purposes.

Although the term “aromatherapy” was not coined until the 20th century, the practice of aromatherapy dates back thousands of years.

The Chinese may have been one of the first to use aromatic plants to help create harmony and balance. Later, the Egyptians are known to have developed a crude distillation process to extract cedarwood oil. Persia and India may have also used herbal preparations.

Greek mythology credited the gods with the gift and knowledge of perfumes. The Roman Empire drew from the knowledge of the Greeks and Egyptians, and had books describing the aromatic properties of over 500 plants.

Lavender is known to have been grown in the 12th century for its aroma and as an aid to sleeping. Chamomile, or camomile, known as the “gentle herb”, also goes back to the ancient Greeks, Romans, and Egyptians, who all used it medicinally, and as a soothing agent among other things.

A degree of caution needs to be observed when using these herbs in conjunction with pillows, as there are a few people who can be allergic to these herbs, so responsible suppliers of pillows with aromatic herbs always provide the herbs in a separate aromatherapy sachet so that those who may be allergic to them can choose to keep the herbs separate from their pillows. For the vast majority of us, however, The use of lavender or camomile sachets placed in our pillows provides a powerful, but gentle and soothing aid to quickly falling asleep.

Know Why You Didn’t Get a Buckwheat Pillow For Christmas?

I’ll bet you’re wondering why you didn’t get a buckwheat pillow for Christmas. You probably don”t realize it”s your own fault. Don’t know why you didn’t get a buckwheat pillow for Christmas? It’s because you didn’t ask for one, now did you?

Do you realize most people don’t even know what a buckwheat pillow is? How do you expect someone to give you something for Christmas that they don’t even know exists?

You have to educate people - Tell them what a buckwheat pillow is - what it does - how it lets you sleep really well - how comfortable it is - how they should really have one - and most importantly, that you really, really, want one. That’s how you get someone to give you a buckwheat pillow for Christmas.

“Well, that’s really nice of you”, you say, “now that Christmas is over”. Sorry about that. Maybe you can think of someone who forgot to get you a Christmas present. Put them on a guilt trip, and then help them out by letting them know what you really wanted but didn’t get.

If that doesn’t work, don’t despair. Whatever you do, don’t wait until next Christmas, because you have a birthday coming before next Christmas. So start educating now. If you do a really good job of educating, who knows, you may even get it before your birthday.

Of course, since you do know what a buckwheat pillow is, and how happy someone would be after they slept on one, even if they don’t know what one is now, what better way would there be for you to educate someone about the wonderful qualities of a buckwheat pillow, than to buy one for them for their birthday, or anniversary, or whatever. Education can be a wonderful gift - if it’s a buckwheat pillow.

Pillows

If you are asked how well you slept last night, what would be your reply? We humans spend about 1/3 of our lives sleeping, and it is necessary that we get the most comfortable rest we can every night. This ensures we are recharged enough to face another day ahead when morning comes. Get the adequate sleep you need by choosing your bed linens and pillows well.

For utmost comfort, use buckwheat pillows that contain 100% organic buckwheat hulls. They perfectly support the proper spinal curve of the head and neck thus providing relaxation of neck and shoulder muscles. While you sleep, your nerves will heal from all the irritation caused by stresses and strains from a long day at work. You can also use these against or under your back, hips, and wherever else you need comfortable support.

Advantages of Organic Buckwheat Hull Pillows

People are recognizing more and more the dangers of toxic chemicals affecting our health through coming in contact with our skin, being breathed into our lungs, and being ingested through food or beverages. While we certainly wouldn’t be inclined to eat our pillows, if we happen to have small children in our homes, they could chew on a corner of a pillow and thus absorb the toxins.

You may be surprised by my talking about toxins in, of all things, a pillow. However, most pillows use either some form of feathers, or plastic (vinyl) foam, as fillers. They also use a cover made from a natural or synthetic fiber. All of these may be loaded with toxins if they are not both filled and covered with organically grown fabrics and fillings, due to either herbicides or pesticides used in the growing of non-organic natural fibers and fillers, or the chemicals emitted from the natural decomposition of the vinyls.

Consider feather type fillers. Fowl, such as chickens or ducks, are notoriously prone to lice and other parasitic infestations. The growers regularly treat them with toxic pesticides to control those infestations. They also support thriving populations of dust mites (have you ever seen the pictures of them taken through a microscope?). These cause many to suffer from mild to severe allergy attacks.

When you consider that you spend about 1/3 of your life sleeping, do you really want to do that with your face in contact with a non-organic pillow cover, and breathing the air that has passed through a filler of vinyl or pesticide laden feathers?

In contrast, knowing that you are sleeping on an organically grown cover filled with hypo-allergenic, (only a very minute percentage of people are found to be allergic to buckwheat flour, which is triple vacuumed from the hulls in quality buckwheat pillows) organically grown buckwheat hulls which do not support dust mites, should make a person sleep better even without the comfort that comes only with a buckwheat pillow.
