I’m still on this series of reasons why not to buy a buckwheat pillow. If not enough info on buckwheat pillows is your supposed reason for not buying a buckwheat hull pillow, good grief. I don’t mean to be condescending, but please, please read the other posts on this blog.

When you get to the bottom of this page, click on “Previous Posts”. Keep on doing that until you get back to the beginning. Then, and only then, if you still harbor that opinion, come back and speak your piece. Maybe I’ve missed something, and if I have I will apologize and continue to search for any info I have missed, and I will add it to my blog, so good luck.

Improving the Pillow

When most people think of a pillow, they get an image of a white cotton pillowcase over a feather-filled pillow. But especially in the past decade, there have been many alterations and changes made to the common pillow. These changes were made because there were a few fundamental issues with the standard feather-filled pillow. For one, many people found the feathers would flatten during the night. Once flattened, they would not offer enough neck support, and this would result in minor to severe neck pain.

The other problem was that people who were susceptible to allergies found the feathers could irritate them. This proved particularly counterproductive, as these allergies would sometimes keep the person awake at night. One common response to these problems was the marketing of buckwheat pillows. These pillows hold their shape throughout the night, and the hulls have the added benefit of neither conducting nor reflecting heat in the way that synthetic fillings do.

How Could Being Organic Provide A Reason To Not Buy A Buckweat Pillow?

Organic Is Good

Organic Is Good

Continuing with the series of posts regarding possible reasons for not buying buckwheat pillows, I am wondering if I can come up with any reasonable arguments against using the fact that quality buckwheat pillows are organic as a reason not to buy a buckwheat pillow, simply because I can’t conceive of a way anyone could even try to make that argument. It’s like trying to prove a negative.

I had to twist my mind into a pretzel to even construct that first sentence, so good luck in trying to unravel it. The only way I can think of making any sense out of this non-argument, is to say flat out that being organic is simply not a reason to not buy a buckwheat pillow. Period.

However, being organic is a really good reason FOR buying a buckwheat pillow. Invest in a buckwheat pillow. You’ll be so glad you did.

Ha Ha! Comfort As A Reason To NOT Buy A Buckwheat Pillow? Ha Ha!

Luxurious Comfot - A Buckwheat Pillow

Luxurious Comfort - A Buckwheat Pillow

Of all the possible reasons to not buy a buckwheat pillow, this is not one of them. I don’t have any proven statistics on this, but I would bet my bottom dollar that comfort, in spite of all the logical reasons I might espouse for buying a buckwheat pillow, still ends up being the number one reason for buckwheat pillows being bought.

When I got my first (which is the one I still sleep on) buckwheat pillow, I had never heard of any of the benefits of buckwheat pillows, other than that they were the most comfortable pillow imaginable. I really didn’t need any of these other reasons. They didn’t concern me back then.

Sometimes I wonder if I shouldn’t just forget about extolling all of the more practical reasons to sleep on a buckwheat pillow, and just concentrate on their luxurious comfort. For my money, there’s no more comfortable pillow than a buckwheat pillow. They are not soft, they are malleable. That’s what makes them provide that great, even, support that is so much better than a soft pillow, and the buckwheat hull’s ventilating quality provides the really unique coolness and dryness that buckwheat pillows are famous for. Buy buckwheat pillows for comfort.

Health Issues A Reason To Not Buy A Buckwheat Pillow? No Way

For A Sore Back - A Buck Wheat Pillow

For A Sore Back - A Buck Wheat Pillow

Health is a reason to buy a buckwheat pillow. Certainly not a reason to not buy a buckwheat pillow. In the last post I wrote about the health issues emanating from the dust mite problem inherent to other pillows, so I won’t repeat that scenario here.

Quality buckwheat pillows are a boon to allergy sufferers. They are thoroughly cleaned to remove any trace of flour or foreign substance, which results in a hypo-alleregenic pillow. Buckwheat pillows can be very beneficial to many different areas of the body which can be suffering from muscular or skeletal problems. Their malleability characteristics make them a favorite of chiropractors and other physicians to help relieve soreness and tension in the neck, shoulder, back, knees, or any area needing support or positioning while sleeping or resting.

But probably the most universally recognized health benefit comes from the simple advantage of a buckwheat pillow’s ability to allow totally relaxing and rejuvenating REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. In today’s hectic world, the inability of people to achieve, not only the proper amount of, but also the proper quality of, sleep, is a real health problem. It is only recently that the medical world is becoming more fully aware of the consequences of inadequate and inferior sleep. Buckwheat pillows are a welcome part of the solution, and are finally becoming recognized as such.

Cost A Reason Not To Buy Buckwheat Pillows? I Don’t Think So.

Buckwheat Pillows = Great Savings

Buckwheat Pillows = Great Savings

The initial cost of a quality organic buckwheat pillow is comparable to that of a quality feather or foam type pillow. But then the real economics kick in.

As you may or may not know, regular pillows (foam, feather, etc.) are subject to dust mite infestations. Because of this, for health reasons, it is recommended that these type pillows be discarded every six months, as it is estimated that as much as10% of the weight of a 2 year old regular pillow is comprised of dead dust mites and their droppings.Buckwheat pillows do not support dust mite infestations.

While there are measures that can be taken to eradicate the dust mite situation with regular pillows, those measures present health problems of their own that may be as serious as the dust mite problem, so you are just trading 1 problem for another. For example, 2 of the solutions are: 1. - Treat the pillows with chemicals to eradicate the dust mites, or 2. - Place the pillow in a plastic case.

Both of these solutions result in laying your head on a pillow that emits harmful chemical toxins which you will breathe into your lungs all night long. And in the case of the plastic cover, have you ever slept with a plastic covered pillow? Even though you cover the plastic cover with a cloth material pillow case. your head still perspires profusely. Neither solution is satisfactory.

So you are left with a pillow that you need to throw away after 6 months. Over the life span of a buckwheat pillow, which will last 15 to 20 years, Look how much money you will have saved by not having to buy a new pillow every 6 months. in 15 years, that’s 29 pillows on which you didn’t have to spend your hard earned dollars. For an added bonus, the characteristics of the buckwheat hulls improve with use.

Regarding Buckwheat Pillows - Ignorance Isn’t Bliss

Buy Buckwheat Pillows - Why Not?

Buy Buckwheat Pillows - Why Not?

I’m going to run a series of posts here in my blog exploring the validity of any reasons anyone has not to be using buckwheat pillows on their beds and in their travels. These posts will be ruminating some of the same materials from previous posts, but from the angle of debunking reasons not to buy buckwheat pillows, rather than advancing the reasons why you should buy buckwheat pillows.

I invite and encourage all of you to feel free to join in and add your opinions, express your concerns, or argue your points. I would like everyone in America to know the advantages of buckwheat Pillows. Unfortunately, ignorance is not always bliss.

Going Green? Go Buckwheat Pillows!

GREEN - ORGANIC BUCKWHEAT HULLS

GREEN - ORGANIC BUCKWHEAT HULLS

Did you know that buckwheat grows very well on relatively poor soil? That means applying chemical fertilizers is not cost effective. Which, of course, is a good reason why chemical fertilizers are not used in the growing of buckwheat.

Did you know that buckwheat has very few insect or fungal pests? That means applying chemical pesticides and fungicides is not cost effective. Which, of course, is a good reason why chemical pesticides and fungicides are not used in the growing of buckwheat.

Did you know that buckwheat is a good ground cover? That means Buckwheat crowds out weed pests. That means applying chemical herbicides is not cost effective. Which, of course, is why chemical herbicides are not used in the growing of buckwheat.

One of the hurdles that going green faces so far is that most crops cost much more to grow organically than they do using chemical fertilizers, pesticides, fungicides, and herbicides. Here is one crop that can be grown organically more economically than it can otherwise.

All this boils down to one big rare point. You can have your cake and eat it too. Buckwheat can be grown organically and save money at the same time. If you really delve into all the different aspects - earth friendly, ergo green and organic, economical, hypoallergenic wise (remember the allergies associated with dust mites) health wise (think about tension headaches, deep sleep benefits) and comfort wise (the actual reason most buckwheat bed pillows are purchased) what possible reason could anyone come up with to justify purchasing any pillow other than a buckwheat pillow? I keep saying to myself, “People just don’t know”.

But now, you, at least, do know. Please do the right thing. A mind is a terrible thing to waste. Buy a buckwheat pillow. It’s a good thing.

Dont Try To Sleep On A Soft Pillow

Lavender Aromatherapy

Lavender Aromatherapy

Buckwheat pillows are not soft! Surprised?

Soft pillows filled with down, foam, feathers, etc. are very soft. They feel really good for a while, but then they start to feel hot. A little longer, and the weight of your head has compressed the filling at the lowest part of your head until it can compress no further. So now the portion of your head that is at the lowest point has compressed the filling to where it is now beginning to feel hard.

Okay, so you reposition your head. Soon another spot on your head is making its new hard spot. Darn - have to change positions again. This could go on all night until exhaustion mercifully puts you to sleep. But it doesn’t take too long until the mounting pressure on still another hard spot causes you to shift again, although you may not fully waken. And so goes the long night.

The buckwheat pillow solves this problem by not being soft. Instead, it is malleable. The buckwheat hulls provide support to the entire area of your head in contact with the pillow, spreading the pressure over that whole area, not concentrating it on one small spot. That provides a huge difference in comfort, letting you sleep fully and comfortably throughout the night.

Meanwhile, the ventilating ability of the buckwheat hulls is keeping your head cool. I realize this may not be the most perfect explanation of how a buckwheat pillow accomplishes its near magical feat of sleeping comfort, but it’s the closest I can come to explaining it.

Actually, it must be experienced to believe it, and that’s a very good reason to buy one right now.
