ORGANIC BUCKWHEAT PILLOWS VS CERTIFIED BUCKWHEAT PILLOWS.
Most people now understand the significance of organic, but then there is certified organic. Buckwheat pillows are affected a little differently than most other items in regard to these two similar but different labels.
Organic means that no chemical fertilizers or fungicides, or pesticides, or any other unnatural chemicals for whatever purposes may be used in the propagation of the crop .
Certified organic means the same thing except that a strict regimen set by the government must be followed and verified, actually starting some years before said crop is even planted, and regulations even apply to a certain area surrounding the actual crop land. As you can imagine, this process is very costly, but in most cases, especially those involving food crops, is a necessary and useful tool to discourage fraudulent organic claims. Unfortunately, this results in much higher prices for the product.
Buckwheat, however, is one of several crops that really don’t benefit from this certified organic regimen, because it really doesn’t need the expensive chemical fertilizers, fungicides, and pesticides, that most crops benefit from. If a farmer doesn’t derive a benefit from using chemicals to get a good crop, he’s not going to, because these chemicals are very expensive.
I’m not saying that there couldn’t possibly be some slight difference occasionally between some buckwheat hulls labeled “Organic”, and some labeled “Certified Organic”, but we’re not talking about a food crop here. The difference in price would be huge, and only because of the great expense of involving the government verification so they could legally add “Certified” to their label. If we apply some common sense, it just doesn’t seem to me that any slight perceptible difference only discernible in a laboratory test, is worth the hugh difference in the cost of the organic buckwheat pillow, vs the certified organic buckwheat pillow.
To paraphrase a popular TV channel slogan, “I report, you decide”. Whichever you choose, an ”organic” or “certified organic” buckwheat pillow, you can rest easy knowing you’re going to have the best sleep you can get.
