Here are some interesting anecdotes from the history of pillows. Remember from the Bible, when Jacob used a stone for a pillow? That’s when he had a dream about a ladder, or a stairway, ascending up to Heaven. I always thought Jacob must have had an awfully hard head.
However, I understand that there is documentation or evidence that this was a common practice among people of that era. I do hope they used some kind of padding on their stone pillows. Or maybe they actually did have really hard heads.
But, to the other extreme, it is known that the orientals had already – two to three thousand years ago – developed the buckwheat hull pillow (without the concealed nylon zipper). Why is it then, that Western civilization has lagged so far behind the Orientals? We’re just recently starting to realize the advantages of the buckwheat pillow that they developed two or three thousand years ago.
Well, better late than never, they say.
